Portakabin kicked off the Made in Yorkshire 2018 events calendar by opening their incredible 250,000m2 production facility in York for a breakfast morning.

Portakabin welcomed 50 decision makers from Yorkshire manufacturing and engineering companies to network, share best practice and enjoy some breakfast!

The event was particularly special, as Portakabin invited fellow guests to exhibit their own services within their premises. Alongside Portakabin, Made in Yorkshire members Greyhound Box Ltd, The Ace Group and EnviroVent put up some brilliant mini exhibition stands that brought something different into the networking portion of the morning.

Following breakfast, Portakabin’s Operations and Logistics Director, Simon Ambler took to the stage to discuss his work. He spoke about the development of the business in the UK and how the Portakabin supply chain works. There was also a great opportunity for all those present to understand more about the innovation that has taken place to create a new era of modular buildings that can be used to create hospitals and entire office blocks.

To end the morning everyone donned their coats and set out to brace the wind and rain on the factory tour. 4 members of staff from Portakabin led small groups around the site and demonstrated their best practice. Despite the weather everyone thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity and came away with a number of ideas to implement at their own sites!

At the end of the event Portakabin’s Matt Stevens was asked about his thoughts on the morning. He stated ‘It has been very successful, I am happy with the numbers, we got 50 people through the door and everyone had a lot of good feedback about our talk and factory tour’.

Matt also offered his advice to any other members looking to host their own breakfast mornings - ‘Give a good, relevant presentation for the people in the room and make sure you have plenty of tea, coffee and breakfast at the ready!’

Matt finished by emphasising why he thinks these morning sessions are so important to the manufacturing community - ‘Made in Yorkshire gives a really good platform for people to meet other manufacturing and engineering companies in the local area and find those new suppliers. It is also a great way to see how some of the larger manufacturers work and enables people to take some of the processes and practices they see back to their sites to help them develop and grow their companies.’
